John Atkinson was hoping to find information for the Laguna Bahia area, which is an area in the city of Torrevieja, souths of Alicante.
Torrevieja is a fast growing coastal city, and so it is expanding the living facilities by building luxurious and well-kept apartments, chalets and semi-detached housing. Laguna Bahia is one of the privileged neighbourhoods easily found between two other fortunate areas called Lago Jardin and Los Altos and just a few minutes from the Torrevieja Lagoon and Naufragos Torrevieja Beach .
If you get to stay in Laguna Bahias, you´ll soon learn about the local history, which, of course, brings along a fascinating music festival called Las Habaneras. Yes, as you have suspected, this has to do with La Habana in Cuba. You see, Torrevieja was a great salt producing area and the seamen who did the salt trading route from here to Cuba used to keep themselves entertained by singing. So this has been carried over the years and has developed into an international contest.
Thanks to its popularity as a vacation spot, the Laguna Bahia area in Torrevieja is not complicated to reach. If you are going by toll motorway from the Altet Airport in Alicante, follow A-37 motorway signs towards Alicante and Torrevieja. When you get to the sign indicating JCT 758 Torrevieja ¨sur¨( south) take this exit and continue on to find CV-95 road towards Torrevieja. When you see the sign which says ¨Los Balcones¨ ( a residencial area) go to the first small circle road and turn right. Laguna Bahias Villa is about 500m on your right.
If you don´t want to pay the toll and enjoy the smaller national roads, then follow the signs indicating N-332 when leaving the airport, which also say Alicante and Torrevieja. As you are getting closer, you´ll see signs to take CV-95 road heading for San Miguel Des Salinas, go through the residencial area Los Balcones and at the third circle road turn left and you´ll find Laguna Bahias Villa about 500 m. on your left.
