Debbie was interested in knowing what her son was going to find in
Valencia while he was there studying. Valencia has the honor of being
the birth place of one of the most popular modern architects, Santiago
Calatrava, who has built a whole
cultural complex in the centre of Valencia.
The America's Cup has turned the port area and accompanying beach
strand into one of the most frequented zones for relaxation and
gatherings for all ages. And within the port, they are other great things like...

Can you tell me please if there is a bus service in place yet from
Alicante Airport to Torrevieja ? thre was talk of one being started
last year by Costa Azul Buses. I dont know if you were aware that
Alicante Airport has the dubious distinction of having the worst public
service transport in Spain.
Regards, John (San Luis, Torrevieja)
Hello John,
Sorry for answering late, really busy here.
I went to the airport yesterday (6. Mai 2008 - brought my mum to her flight back home to Germany), and checked again at the
Alicante airport tourist information and at the airport info desk.
Both times I got the same answer:
"There is NO direct Bus from Alicante Airport to Torrevieja at the moment"
You can get a bus to...

An English woman, Carol, was wondering if I had ever come across hire cars in the Costa Blanca area which have hand controls for disabled drivers.
Fortunately, for Carol from England, who is quite worried about wanting
to hire a car for her disabled husband, more and more rent-a-car
companies are reacting to the need that disabled travelers have when
they not only want to rent a car but also want to be independent and
drive it themselves.
Hiring cars for disabled people is not an easy task, especially when you are looking for vehicles that the disabled can drive themselves. But looking into the matter we have come across some interesting info. on ........

I
updated the list of flights to Alicante Airport on the website.
Skyeurope Airlines is now flying directly from Prague and Vienna to Alicante. I guess this is what most Austrians and Czech have been waiting for for a long time , since the only airline covering any direct flight from that region has been Air-Berlin via Niki.
A big Thanks to our reader Josef, (Vielen Dank) for letting me know.
Edward or Ed would like to know what the possibilities to play tennis in
Moraira are?
Hi Ed, or do you like Edward? You couldn't have picked a better place
to practice tennis than in Moraira. It's always sunny and in and around
Moraira they have some new tennis complexes with courts open to all,
restaurants and swimming pools.
Moraira, on the Mediterranean coast, caters to all kinds of sports activities but has also opened up some fantastic places for the visitors to take a swing at tennis, so line up and we'll.......
Susan said that she needed info. on what ferry she could take from
Alicante to Valencia. The question is well taken since many people
visit or
fly into Valencia and than plan to travel further south to Alicante.
Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there aren't any direct ferries going along the coast from Valencia to Alicante. There are only the ones going to the
Baleares Islands from Denia or a nice one ( even though it's short) from Alicante and Torrevieja to
Tabarca Island.
There is a wide choice of transports that can either take you from one coastal area to another along the coast or inland. Making tourist stops is a fun way to the see the country, so scout around my accumulation of ideas....

Dear Hubertus, Thanks for all the information about the beautiful area
you live in. I look forward to receiving your emails. I wondered if you
may be able to help me.
My family and I will be in Spain this summer (June-July). We are
arriving in Barcelona and spending a few days and then are planning on
driving to Alicante. I hope to do the drive in one day is this
possible? .... Ron F.
Ron, Thanks for your email. You are actually asking on a wide range of
questions, so allow me to "tear your email apart" and answer it in two
seperate posts on the webcast. (hope this expression "tear apart" goes
well ).
Here we go:
Is it possible to drive from Barcelona to Alicante in one day?...
Sue and Neil P. send in this very well taken question about our Alicante-Spain.com Newsletter: Hi sorry for being skeptic but do I have to pay you any fees for joining or any on going fees and if not what do you get out of this. As nothing these days are for free. Your web site and what you offer is great but I hate surprises. If you are a genuine person I can only appologise but there are so many scams about today. Many thanks
Hello Sue,
thanks for being skeptic. And you are right there is nothing free these days.
Well ,
except our downloadable ...
Second part of Ron's question... The other item is I know in one of
your emails you talk about some of your favorite hotels in the area do
you have any ideas about a place to stay in a more local type setting
on the beach ,smaller hotel/motel we are a family of five and enjoy
the local flavor. Our three teenagers are looking forward to beach
activities as well as enjoying Alicante and the surrounding areas.
Thanks for any help and again great job on the webcast and emails. Ron
F.
This question about a family friendly hotel in Alicante or surroundings
is a quite common one. Ron, it is really tricky for me to give any good
advice on hotels around the Costa Blanca, since we obviously do not
need a hotel (as we are living here). However over the past years,
running this website, we do get occasionally readers to recommend a
certain hotel in a city along the Costa Blanca. We have collected these
tips and listed those hotel recommendations for various cities on our
site.
In your case, as you planning to go to Alicante, I would recommend the...
Connie asked about the city of Castellon, Spain on the Costa del Azahar in May.
The Costa del Azahar, is located way up north of the Costa Blanca and
even further north of the city of
Valencia. It's a very lovely area
with plenty of cultural sights to see and visit.
The city of Castellon itself and such wonderful surrounding cities like Peniscola or Morella (picture right) has a combination...

Sybille from Dortmund asked for any good restaurants to be found in Murcia, as she will attend a seminar with her company.
We published a short article on our favorite Murcia restaurants a while ago. I am not such a frequent Murcia visitor, but my wife goes there rather often when attending medical conferences (Gloria is a pathologist).
The short list of our favorite Murcia restaurants is here:
http://www.alicante-spain.com/murcia-restaurants.html
I think this could give you an idea and please take the restaurants list just as our personal recommendation, there are literally hundred other great restaurants and bars in Murcia for you to enjoy a great dinner or lunch.

Margaret V. from Boise will visit friends in the
La Manga area this summer. She wants to know if we could recommend any good book or course to learn spanish. Similar questions came in from Ian, Kalzok (not sure if right name) and Joanne all asking for a basic spanish language guide , for travelers.
Years ago, I did my spanish language course in Barcelona where we had used
the schools learning material. Since I have been living here for many years (and married to a lovely spanish lady) I don't really use any language books anymore. However, I recommended the following course in one of our past
newsletters and readers wrote back that they liked the online learning
method (and that it was free). The free spanish course ...
Just a quick note that I updated our web page on
Public Transport to Benidorm and Denia from Alicante Airport here. With the biggest change that Alsa (spanish bus company) now runs 13 daily
bus shuttle connections from Alicante Airport to Benidorm. Compared to the eight daily routes they had last summer, it is definitely an improvement.
However this is ...

The Costa Blanca is always bustling with activities, be it
gastronomical with its sidewalk cafes or entertainment for the family
every day of the week.
Claus and Anne were puzzled about what was open on Sundays in Spain.
Arriving at a city like Alicante, or even a smaller touristy coastal
area shoudn't be thought of as a problem as far as being able to get
something to eat.
Take a closer look at my memo pad to clasp some ideas.....
