Alicante Airport and the official Alicante airport web site unfortunately is nothing more than just a simple directory of big spanish airports and Alicante airport is not a big one anyway. Available currently in spanish language only, it does help a little bit at alicante airport.

Arrival at Alicante airport

Nothing special at the Alicante airport - nice airport halls with marble - always clean and tidy. One thing that can always happen to a traveler is damaged or lost luggage. Both have happened to me at alicante airport and both times I was quite happy to work myself around with some spanish. So, if you do not speak any spanish, try to speak English slowly. The lady at the counter does her best, is friendly and hey, don't worry, she will get things done. They worked extremely efficiently.

If your luggage is missing, you go through a standard procedure of filling in a form (which is also available in english), let them know where you will be staying so a driver from alicante airport can get your luggage to you the next day.

Do not offer to pick it up on your own - they will deliver - don't worry.

In case you arrived with nothing but your shirt at alicante airport and everything is missing, ask for a survival package. This emergency bag covers at least the basic needs.

I have always found everybody at alicante airport to be very very friendly and helpful!

Tip: Check your luggage for any damage.

It has happened to me many times - and I am not sure why it always happens at alicante airport. (on my outbound to London or Munich I have never had anything damaged).

Check - and double check - particularly handles and wheels seem to get damaged quite a lot. If your luggage has been damaged, just go to the "luggage claim desk" inside the arrival hall. Do not leave the building before! - The counter is directly located 20 ft. away from the luggage belt!

They will take notice of the damage - give you a printed form which you send to your airline afterwards.

Alicante airport train

Great and easy topic - because there is no train to alicante airport. At least not until today (2008). Plans had been made in the past to connect alicante airport, but up to now no train - sorry!
But you can take the alicante airport bus or a taxi to alicante central station. Not a big advice - but at least one little solution.

Alicante airport taxi

One of the best ways to get some practice on your language skills is by talking to a taxi driver (or simply listening to spanish radio). Usually taxi drivers are very helpful.

Getting picked up from alicante airport

In case you will be picked up at alicante airport, I would advise not to go for the usual parking lot. A perfect meeting point is right in front of the taxi booth (right corner in photo above).

Parking at alicante airport

Nothing special on parking really, just that it can get quite expensive leaving the car directly at the airport for a longer time.

Parking rates are as follows (Feb. 2007):

Per hour: EUR 1,50

Per day: EUR 15

( Update Feb. 2007 - Parking rates increased a lot from last year to this year. So please check current parking rates directly when you are leaving your car at the airport.)

Long term parking at alicante airport

In case you live around here most of the time and would like to leave your car for a longer period of time at the airport, I can recommend the long term parking providers.

Most of them are located around the airport area. Pricing is lower compared to the airport and they sometimes offer extra service (shuttle to airport etc.).

Check in at alicante airport

If someone drives you to the airport, you do not need to buy a parking ticket. There is a large "drop" zone right at the entrance of the terminal building. But watch out - you should really leave your car only 10 minutes otherwise.. well I have paid twice so far.

Alicante airport is a small airport and the check in counters are all located in the same area. Please consider being at the airport at least 1 hour before your departure time (during summer time at least 90 minutes) - because smaller carriers usually offer only one or two check-in desks.

Alicante Airport Hotels

There isn't any hotel directly within the airport building or next to it, however you can get two very good hotels right nearby. Within a 5 minutes taxi drive you will get to the Areca or the Holiday Inn.

The Areca Hotel Torrellano is located just about 2 km away from the airport and is a very nice place to stay.

A bit further on, at about 3 km distance from the airport is the Holiday Inn Elche located. Also a very nice hotel, especially if you planning business meetings.

Shopping at alicante airport

After check-in and security check (at the first floor) you will find many nice shops at Alicante airport. My favorite is the Warner Bros. Shop where you get nice last minute gifts for the people at home.

Restaurants at alicante airport

Take note, even a Bill Bentley Pub inside the departure area and spanish translation of Burger King sometimes got funny twists.

Biggest disadvantage to a Burger King fan who might just want to pick up somebody at the airport: They operate only inside the departure area. Bad luck!

Pharmacy at alicante airport

Located in the arrival area (lower floor) of the airport building you will find a pharmacy. Open from 10 to 14h and 16 to 20h. (I will never understand why they can not keep it open from 8 to 23h)
