It is the time of the year where you “the least” think about your next holiday. It’s those dark, misty short daylight days, where you get even in a bad mood, just by looking outside your window? … so I thought – STOP – let this newsletter be a really WOW – Newsletter.
A ” wow ” or (like we say a ” wau “) newsletter – is the one thing that hopefully makes you smile. The one that makes you look forward to “perhaps” you next holiday in Spain or wherever you plan on going. So this newsletter is meant to be just that – a Wow newsletter.
Some Wow Pictures from around Alicante
Over the past weeks, we published a series of pictures on our Facebook page. Some of them got an unexpected high “like” rating. So I guess they can be called WOW pictures:
( This pictures are mostly taken at the beach of San Juan and El Campello )
More Wow Pictures from the Volvo Ocean Race
As reported on one of our last newsletters, Alicante had seen the start of the Volvo Ocean Boat Race. Since the city has been the departing harbor for the world sailing race for the second consecutive time, the final day here at the port was an impressive demonstration for this sport.
Even I who never had much to do with boats or sailing, got blown away by the power and speed these high-tech boats show.
A series of – yes – really “Wow” pictures – of the 2011/2012 Volvo Ocean Race are here on our site.
The “Big – Thank You” – Facebook “Wow” story
In our past newsletter “94 is not enough Dad” … I explained why our daughter Anna thought how ” un – cool ” her Dad was – having just a disappointing 94 friends on the Alicante-Spain Facebook page.
Well.. what can I say : Thank you – A BIG Thank You – to all of you – who returned some “Dad credit” in my daughters eyes.
Up to now we got way over 350 fans on Facebook now – Thanks to all of you who helped in supporting my “Dad-self-esteem” :-).
Couple of Short Tips – Right from Answering Reader Questions
Whenever we send out a new newsletter, the very same day we get an avalanche of questions. It’s normal I guess, because this newsletter does what it is supposed to do – It reminds you about your upcoming holidays (hopefully) in Spain.
Most of you use the Questions and Answers section to post any queries there, which makes it easier, as all readers benefit from answers and get help at the same time. Since some readers still hit the “reply to email newsletter” button and send questions by email – I feel like my answers get lost to the rest of you.
Therefore, I will put a couple of the most frequently asked questions and answers in this and upcoming newsletters, so all of you might benefit. ( I rephrase the questions for privacy reasons, but you will get the idea).
The “Looking for a Hotel” in Question:
Question: We are coming to xyz town in a few days, can you recommend a good, cheap, luxury, all-inclusive, or “what-not” 😀 hotel ?
Hubert: Yes, we have some hotel and accommodation pages for most cities around the Costa Blanca. Those hotels have either been used by friends/family of ours or are recommendations of other readers. You best go to the main Alicante-Spain.com homepage – type into the search box (top right) – the name of the city and the word ” hotel ” ( e.g. type in Benidorm hotel ) and you will get to our recommendations page. – Should you not find any hotel recommendation for the city or town you plan on staying, please head over to booking.com and see hotels for your area including detailed customer ratings.
The “Looking for a Holiday Home, Apartment, Villa” Question:
Question: I would like to find an apartment for next summer in the Costa Blanca area, near xyz. Do you have a list of anybody (private) how could rent me out a villa or holiday home?
Hubert: Yes and no. We do not have a special list of holiday home owners ( might be a good idea actually), but we have a detailed article on where to find holiday homes ( especially from private owners). Have a look here and you will most likely find the right apartment, villa or holiday home around the Costa Blanca.
The “How do I get from the Airport to” Question… or … “is the bus still running” Question:
Question: We arrive tomorrow ( btw it is always urgent ) at Alicante airport. How can I get quickly, cheaply, safely, friendly, relaxed (or whatever) to xyz town at the Costa Blanca. … AND.. is the bus from Alicante airport to xyz town still running – even now – even on weekends – even on Sundays – even whatever..?
Hubert: Please go to our “Getting from Alicante Airport to Cities Around the Costa Blanca” page here and you will find most direct or in-direct transfer connections from Alicante airport. As detailed as I could. … AND.. YES, the pages for the Alicante airport to Benidorm bus, Alicante bus, Torrevieja bus, Murcia bus and others are running exactly as described on those pages. ( I try to keep them as up-to-date as possible and thanks to some of you, who help me with your comments, they are up-to-date).
The Murcia Corvera Airport Odyssey
As a final topic of today’s newsletter – my “condolences” to all of you who fly or plan on flying into Murcia airport in the upcoming months.
There is now better way to describe – as with tons of sarcasm – the weird “non-information” and lack of communication game Spanish authorities are playing regarding the old Murcia airport in San Javier and the new nearly-ready airport in Murcia Corvera.
We updated our ” new airport in Murcia Corvera ” page here and still shake our head by the amount of non-information as to when things will get started. A real mess for you – if you plan on flying to any Murcia airport – next year.
I do my best and keep the Corvera Murcia airport info page updated – and please if You come across any New piece of information, post a comment and I will add it to the page.
We got Rich – well … sort of…
Finally, to end this newsletter in a positive way… and to make you all look forward at your next Costa Blanca vacation, here a picture of the “huge treasure” we found on a Sunday morning walk at our San Juan de Alicante beach.
Yes – can you see it – we found 11 ( ELEVEN !!!) coins – a total of impressive 22 cents ! Euro cents that is!
I hope this little “wow” picture will give you something to look forward to your next time when you are around the Costa Blanca beaches.
From a “rich” beach-walker in San Juan de Alicante,
All the Best,
Hubert
