I get many questions about how to get to from Madrid to Alicante or how far away is this and that city from the Costa Blanca capital.

For those of you who sent me an email, please understand that I can not answer every email, therefore I put this page up. I will add further destinations just as questions coming in.

So let’s start with the simple two questions:

From Alicante Airport to Alicante downtown. The airport is about 12 km in the south of Alicante, close to Santa Pola. You can take the bus, taxi or hire a car. No train connection at the airport available. Further details on how to get to Alicante from the Airport here.

To the North of Alicante along the Costa Blanca. San Juan and El Campello are basically towns just in the north of Alicante. The beach of Alicante is just touching the beach of Alicante San Juan and El Campello. Take the new Alicante streetcar and be in 10 Minutes on the wonderful beaches.

Alicante to Benidorm. By car autopista A7 or national road N332, will take about 30 minutes to Benidorm. You can also take the Narrow Gauge Railway to Benidorm and further on until the final destination Denia. So if you want to go to Villajoyosa or further north to Altea (about 45 km from Alicante), Calpe (53 km), Benissa, Teulada, Moraira, Javea (about 70km) or to Denia (about 75 km) the train is worth a trip if you look for some sightseeing. Its not very fast, but lets you see the beauties of the costa blanca. Instead of car or narrow gauge railway, you can also take a bus, leaving from Alicante city bus station. This is interesting if you want to go a little bit further north to the cities of Gandia and Oliva. The buses run on regular schedules and are reliable.

To the South Torrevieja and Murcia. From Alicante run regular bus services to Torrevieja and Murcia. From Alicante city bus station it takes about one hour to Murcia (60 km) and 45 minutes to Orihuela. By car you can take autopista A7 or national road N340. Going to Torrevieja you should take the national road N332 (direction Cartagena) which will get you in 30 minutes by car.

For all of you who fly into Alicante from various places around Spain, here is a brief overview.

From Madrid to Alicante, you can take a train which will take about 3,5 hours. If you take a car you should be here in 4 hours, using the mostly 2-line national road A-31 and A-3. The distance between Alicante and Madrid is about 430 km by car (straight line distance is about 360 km).
