music lyric can help us learn spanish |
Lyrics, be they spanish lyric or from any language, are used to sing a new story
or tale, words put to music to narrate an adventure, a history, a
protest – in short – a feeling.
Each kind of music comes from a certain country like the Salsa with the all so famous Tito Puente and Celia Cruz, two well-known Cuban singers. Their spanish lyric fill our minds and hearts with images and experiences from their native Cuba: a spontaneous, joyful Cuba. Not the same spanish lyric that Lucrecia or Gloria Estefan sing, both belonging to the newer generation, touched by quite different experiences than the other two mentioned. Another place where Salsa music is very popular is Puerto Rico, which has also contributed with its spanish song lyrics vividly describing their way of life, traditions and even political tendencies. Nowadays, who has not been to a dance class or have friends who are learning to dance. And what are they learning to do? Well, the Bachata is one and it too has lyric song by Alex Bueno with his song “ Ask me” or Aventura with the romantic song “ Alexandra”. Let´s change beats for a Rumba and let´s sing along with Celia Cruz, El Gran Combo with “ Witchery” or Giliberto Santa Rosa with “ They can Say” which sings about an impossible relationship. Whatever it be, Merengue, Cumbia, Timba, Cha-Cha, all have something to tell us and the majority of us want to listen. What different rhythms sing about Knowing the lyrics makes you identify with that song, the person who was with you and the occasion when you first heard it. Today, music is part of every aspect in our lives. When we get up in the morning, if we have a lively song with happy or even funny words, the task of facing a long day becomes lighter, especially if we can sing a few of the lyric and do the same during the day. In T.V. commercials there are specific songs chosen because of their message, or in other words, what they want to say – their lyrics. Cunban´s Gloria Estefan´s “ Hear my Voice” originally
sung in spanish has been brilliantly translated to English and
says: Music has no skin colour nor understands boundaries or religions and definitely has never volunteered to participate in any war, it is free and moves wherever it wants, just like spanish lyric.
