Each kind of music comes from a certain country like the Salsa with the all so famous Tito Puente and Celia Cruz, two well-known Cuban singers. Their spanish lyric fill our minds and hearts with images and experiences from their native Cuba: a spontaneous, joyful Cuba. Not the same spanish lyric that Lucrecia or Gloria Estefan sing, both belonging to the newer generation, touched by quite different experiences than the other two mentioned. Another place where Salsa music is very popular is Puerto Rico, which has also contributed with its spanish song lyrics vividly describing their way of life, traditions and even political tendencies.

Nowadays, who has not been to a dance class or have friends who are learning to dance. And what are they learning to do? Well, the Bachata is one and it too has lyric song by Alex Bueno with his song “ Ask me” or Aventura with the romantic song “ Alexandra”. Let´s change beats for a Rumba and let´s sing along with Celia Cruz, El Gran Combo with “ Witchery” or Giliberto Santa Rosa with “ They can Say” which sings about an impossible relationship. Whatever it be, Merengue, Cumbia, Timba, Cha-Cha, all have something to tell us and the majority of us want to listen.

What different rhythms sing about

Knowing the lyrics makes you identify with that song, the person who was with you and the occasion when you first heard it. Today, music is part of every aspect in our lives. When we get up in the morning, if we have a lively song with happy or even funny words, the task of facing a long day becomes lighter, especially if we can sing a few of the lyric and do the same during the day. In T.V. commercials there are specific songs chosen because of their message, or in other words, what they want to say – their lyrics. The spanish lyric help people to associate to that certain product and many times when we have to remember what we need to buy, this song pops up in our heads.

For all special occasions we want an original song to keep dear in heart. Look at the traditional wedding song or the happy birthday one, no one has ever decided to substitute them for more modern ones.

Through spanish song lyric we can learn the alphabet song, how to count, about animals, just and category you can think of. Or for entertainment we can do a spanish Karaoke. Without realising it we are learning spanish grammar and bettering our pronunciation. Who has never sung “ La Cucaracha” or “ La Bamba”?

Was´ up in modern spanish song lyric.

Cunban´s Gloria Estefan´s “ Hear my Voice” originally sung in spanish has been brilliantly translated to English and says:
Take me... only for what I am
You´ve got a right to speak your mind
You´ve gotta take a stand
With the chorus repeating: someday it´ll be alright
changes happen overnight.
Or Brazil´s Roberto Carlos who also sings in spanish lyric:
If love vanishes
what an immense hollow space
if love vanishes
there is no fantasy left
with the chorus repeating: if love vanishes
no couples to love
Or Jose Luis Perales from Spain who sings about a far away land with his song “ America”.

Music has no skin colour nor understands boundaries or religions and definitely has never volunteered to participate in any war, it is free and moves wherever it wants, just like spanish lyric.
