Our reader Johann from Austria wants to know any good restaurants in or around Denia, since he will spend this years vacation there.
Denia sits north of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca. There are many delightful restaurants to choose from in this town but here are some tried and tested recommendations below.
Having been to just a few favorite bars and restaurants there I asked one of my spanish neighbors ( a local salesman ) to help me out. So here is a short list of our favorite bars and restaurants in Denia:
La Menta restaurant in Denia lies in the beautiful old part of the town, to be more specific it is in the ancient fisherman’s part of town. Head chef Peter van Strateen cooks up divine Mediterranean dishes and guests are able to enjoy the cosy atmosphere. Particular dishes of note are the homemade pate, and the rack of lamb that is cooked to perfection. The restaurant can be reached via phone on 966 431 851. Starters start at around 5 Euro, with main dishes from approximately 12- 19 Euro . It is situated on the Plaza San Antonio and is number 3.
Restaurant Ikarus is a lovely place on the beach side of the town of Denia. The restaurant has a large bar where diners can enjoy a nice ore-dinner aperitif and there is a large roof terrace when the weather is fine. The establishment can host up to 30 people and often enjoys having parties come in to eat. Chef Timo constantly changes the menu and ensures only the freshest ingredients are used to produce the range of soups, fish and meat dishes that are on the menu. Bookings can be made from 5pm onwards by phone. They can be reached on +34 966 422 788. The address is Las Marinas, Centro Commercial ‘El Poblet’, Denia.
La Casa del Greco provides a wonderful fusion of Spanish and Greek food which produces a delightful range of mediterranean dishes. There is also an extensive wine list that the staff will be delighted to help you choose from for the best accompaniment with your food. Traditional Greek signature dishes on the menu include tiropetes (cheese puffs), dolmadakia which are stuffed wine leaves, tzatziki and of course moussaka. Their phone number is 965 780 663. The address is Calle la Mar 7 which is in the centre of Denia and next to the main street. Although slightly more expensive than other restaurants in the area, it is well worth a visit.
The restaurant El Reset is a firm favourite amongst tourists and locals alike. It specializes in fish and seafood dishes, and uses only the freshest ingredients from the sea that arrive into the Port at Denia. The address is Bellavista 7, Denia and the telephone number is +34 966 424 479. One of their most popular starters is the Foie Gras and then for a main, any of their freshest fish will leave you feeling satisfied and happy. A definite must for any visitor to the area!
Tasca Eulalia is a really super little place that serves local food and has a wonderful outdoor eating area perfect for watching the world go by. This restaurant is a particular favourite of the Spanish so you can be guaranteed good food at reasonable prices. The address is 39 C/ Marqués de Campo, Dénia and the number is +34 96 578 64 79. Recommended dishes are little fried squid called Chipirones fritos and Entrecote a Caballo which is a wonderful mix of steak with potatoes and eggs.
