The Mar Blau Hotel in Benidorm is a two star hotel in Benidorm’s Old Town, near the Harbour and Parque d’Elche.
Basic but VERY clean, some rooms overlook Poniente Beach in Benidorm otherwise the back or side – with views into local apartments. These can be noisy as there is a road outside so suggest a high floor. The actual road outside the hotel is closed to traffic so very quiet. You need to go down steps or a ramp to the lower road. This then brings you to the beach (paseo) and more steps/ramp to the beautiful beach.
Breakfast in the Mar Blau hotel is continental but in trying to cater for UK holidaymakers they do eggs and bacon. Take a travel kettle though. The breakfast/ tea is awful & Spanish hotels do not supply these facilities. Otherwise go out for your coffee to a bar!
Evening meals – buffet but the freshest salads, always a soup, plus for mains, a veggie option, fish and also meat/chicken dishes. The chef constantly replenishes the food and makes sure it is all kept hot. Decent wine list too.
Small bar open just before lunch and dinner, doesn’t stay open late. No need as this hotel is right in the heart of Benidorm Old Town. So much more Spanish. Everyone strolls at night, shops open including Farmacia, up to midnight in high season. A really fabulous atmosphere.
This is totally different to “New Benidorm” with hotels in the hills away from the beach, rubbish shops and even worse food. This is a very Spanish area, most of the hotel guests are Spanish. Little jewel of an hotel really, but for a 2 star quite expensive due to the location.
